Academic Affairs Committee (AAC)

The Academic Affairs Committee studies and initiates appropriate action on matters that concern the academic life of students and strives to improve academics at the university. Academic Affairs appoints students to student-faculty committees, creates dialogue with the faculty, and promotes/reevaluates the online graduate test preparatory program (in consultation with the Budget and Public Relations Committees). Academic Affairs works directly with faculty in the Provost’s office, Academic Departments, Career Services, Library Services, the bookstore, and all professors in general.

Administrative Policy Committee (APC)

The Administrative Policy Committee exercises oversight of the rules and the WCSA administration. Often providing counsel for the other committees, Administrative Policy Committee members will review university policies as they pertain to students, make recommendations for revisions, and review WCSA’s governing documents. APC reexamines all governing documents and reevaluates their modernity and relevance to the current senate. The Administrative Policy Committee also exercises oversight of the Code of Student Conduct, appointing all Student Justices with the consent of the Full Senate.

Budget Committee (BC)

The Budget Committee oversees reviewing and recommending allocations of funds from the Student Activity Fee, subject to final approval by the Executive Committee or Full Senate (unless otherwise stated by statute) with the advice of the Budget Advisor. Budget Committee acts as the stewards of campus programming and ensures there is diversity in programming and limits over-programming. Budget works directly with all campus clubs/organizations on budget/initiative requests, training, and recommendations. The Budget Committee considers ways to improve the budgetary guidelines as well as the long-term sustainability of the current Student Activity Fee rate.

Public Relations Committee (PRC)

The Public Relations Committee is the liaison between WCSA and the student body. Public Relations is responsible for managing WCSA’s social media platforms, creating flyers for events, and keeping up to date with events happening around campus. Public Relations provides the OWU community with necessary information concerning various WCSA-related events and issues and generally relays the goings-on with the WCSA. The committee promotes all WCSA elections, updates the WCSA website, and promotes Town Hall meetings for the student body to be aware of issues and voice their concerns. Public Relations also generally informs students about what is going on with WCSA while giving students opportunities to voice their opinions, including through the WCSA Comment Card Box. Members of Public Relations should show interest or have experience with working with Canva or other design platforms.

Student Inclusion Advocacy Committee (SIAC)

The Wesleyan Council on Student Affairs recognizes that within the full senate and on our campus, there is lacking representation for a range of students identifying within the black community, the Latinx community, the LGBT community, the disabled community, the Muslim community, and/or intersections of these identities.

In an effort to acknowledge and address this lack of representation, the 2016 term of WCSA under the Choate administration passed a bill to form the Student Inclusion Advocacy Committee. SIAC is responsible for speaking for and working on behalf of all students who identify as lacking representation within Ohio Wesleyan University. The goals of this committee are to work within WCSA and with offices on campus to study, identify, and initiate appropriate actions on issues underrepresented students on campus face. SIAC works directly with Budget Committee and faculty in OMSA, public safety, the counseling center, disability services, and the student health center.

Chair: Blake Johnson (bljohnson@owu.edu)

Student Life Committee (SLC)

The Student Life Committee is responsible for studying and initiating appropriate actions on residential living issues that concern students. Student Life leads projects regarding residential halls, parking, Greek life, dining services, and other university policy areas that add to the OWU Experience. Student Life works directly with faculty in the Chaplain’s Office, OMSA, Residential Office, and Public Safety. Student Life may work independently and on joint projects with Student Inclusion Advocacy Committee (SIAC).
