Legacy Internship Program - Supervisors

Does my department or office have to reapply each year for our internship?

Yes. Internship determinations are made on an annual basis so academic departments and campus offices need to reapply for the Legacy Internship Program yearly. However, you may use the same application from year-to-year.

Does a legacy internship cost a department or office any money?

No. Donations from alumni have created a special endowment fund for Legacy Internships.

Can only legacy students apply for these internships?

Yes, only legacy students are allowed to apply for Legacy Internships. For the purpose of this program, legacy students are those students who have a family member (cousin, sibling, aunt, uncle, parent, grandparent, etc.) who graduated from OWU.

How long should the term of an internship be?

Internships can last for the full academic year or for one semester. Half-semester internships will not be accepted.

How many hours should the students work?

Students should work no more than six hours per week. Students should not work during fall break, spring break, bishop break days, or during final exams.

When can a department or office apply for an internship?

The application process timeline can be found on the main Legacy Internship Program page.

How will I be notified if student(s) apply for my Legacy Internship position?

Once the student application period opens, you will be notified on a rolling basis, via email, of any applicants. At the close of the student application period, you will be notified if there are no applicants for your position.

Do I have to interview all applicants for my Legacy Internship position?

Yes. The number of applicants for each position is typically small, and we would like each student to have the experience of participating in a professional interview.

Does a Legacy Internship need an advisor?

Yes. An Ohio Wesleyan faculty, or staff member must serve as the advisor to a legacy intern. It is the responsibility of an advisor to make sure the intern is participating in substantial work and developing marketable job skills. The Legacy Coordinator will periodically touch base with the advisor and the student to make sure the internship is proceeding as expected.
