Instructions for Electing Credit / No-Entry for Spring 2020

  1. Read the Credit / No-Entry Grading Policy for Spring 2020 Semester.
  2. Review the Credit / No-Entry Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
  3. Discuss the Credit / No-Entry Grading Policy and your Spring 2020 grades with your academic advisor. Before electing credit / no-entry for any course, you should consult with your advisor about the possible consequences for time to graduation, overall GPA, ability to graduate with honors, financial aid eligibility, and admission to graduate or professional schools. Your advisor is a great resource for sorting through these issues.
  4. To select credit / no-entry for one or more of your Spring 2020 courses, visit the Credit / No-Entry Election form and log in with your OWU username and password. You can watch the Credit / No-Entry video for a walk through of the process:
  5. If all of your final grades have been submitted for Spring 2020, you will see a list of courses you took in Spring 2020, the grade submitted by your instructors, and the grade as it will appear on your transcript. See the screenshot below. This list will not appear until all of your final grades have been submitted.
  6. To elect credit / no-entry for a course, select the check box to the left of the course. Note that the far right column (Transcript) will indicate what will show up on your transcript. The screenshot below shows an example. ART 112 has an instructor-assigned grade of D+. When credit / no-entry is elected for this course, it will not appear on the transcript, which is indicated by the word “Hidden” in the Transcript column. The grade for ENG 105 (C-) will be replaced with S (Satisfactory) when credit / no-entry is elected.
  7. When you are satisfied with your selection, check the box at the bottom of the form indicating that you have consulted with your advisor. You should not submit this form unless you have discussed credit / no-entry with your advisor.
  8. Click the Submit request button. Once you click this button, your election of credit / no-entry for the checked courses will be automatic. You and your advisor will receive an email indicating the credit / no-entry elections you have made. There is no way to undo these elections except by submitting a Petition for Special Permission (PDF) to the Academic Status Committee. This can be time consuming. It is therefore very important that you make sure your selections are correct and appropriate before submitting this form.

Things to Keep in Mind

  1. You are not required to elect credit / no entry for any course. If you are happy with your grades or if you believe it is not to your advantage to elect credit / no entry, do not do so.
  2. You are not required to elect credit / no entry for all courses. You can elect credit / no entry for just one or for all courses (or anything in between). Elect credit / no entry only when it makes sense for you.
  3. You may use the Credit / No Entry Grading Policy form as many times as you like. You can elect credit / no entry for one course and then return weeks later to select credit / no entry for another course.
  4. You cannot use the Credit / No Entry Grading Policy form to unselect or undo election of credit / no entry for a course. Once you elect credit / no entry for a course, you can only undo the select by submitting a Petition for Special Permission (PDF) to the Academic Status Committee. Please be certain that you want to elect credit / no entry before submitting the Credit / No Entry Grading Policy form.
