About

Principal Flutist of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra from 1975 to 2018, Randall Hester received his Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from the Eastman School of Music in 1973, where he studied with the legendary Joseph Mariano. From 1974 to 1981 he continued his flute studies with Maurice Sharp, principal flutist with the Cleveland Orchestra. Mr. Hester has performed as Principal Flute with the Center Orchestra of Lake Placid (Syracuse Symphony), the Music Academy of the West Symphony Orchestra, and in 1985 as an artist-fellow for the Bach Aria Group Festival in Stony Brook, NY for its tri-centennial celebration of the birth of J.S. Bach. Mr. Hester has performed as a soloist with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra many times, is active as a chamber musician in the Central Ohio area, and has performed at the National Flute Convention for its St. Louis and Columbus conventions. He has served as visiting Instructor of Flute at The Ohio State University, Otterbein College, Capital University, Ohio Wesleyan University, and Heidelberg College, and has given Master Classes in flute performance at The Ohio State University, Capital University, Susquehanna University, Denison University, University of Akron, Wright State University, Otterbein University, and for the Central Ohio Flute Association. Currently, Mr. Hester maintains private flute studios in Worthington and Dublin, Ohio.
