The Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship at Ohio Wesleyan University offers a unique opportunity for students interested in pursuing a future in the accounting profession.
The Accounting Fellows Program
The Accounting Fellows Program will allow a select group of students to combine classroom knowledge with real-world accounting research and application.
Students will benefit from this program by participating in academic activities outside of the traditional classroom space, professional development activities, and a domestic travel learning experience funded by the Woltemade Center.
Students who are named Accounting Fellows will be expected to major or minor in accounting, engage in professional development activities, engage in accounting research under the guidance of Economics and Business Department faculty, and present their findings to the Economics and Business Department and campus community.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCOUNTING FELLOWS
- Participate in at least one approved internship in the area of accounting (can be for or without academic credit). Students will complete an assessment of their work, complete a journal documenting their experience during the internship, and have an assessment performed by a direct supervisor;
- Research project consisting of an independent study or directed reading in the area of accounting that is taken for academic credit and under the supervision of an OWU professor and possibly an outside accountant or finance professional who is selected by the Woltemade Center;
- Participate in approved external professional development activities individually or as a member of a group. Professional development activities considered may be accounting competitions, leadership programs or conferences, attending special guest lectures, and/or business site tours;
- Sign-up for student membership with the Ohio Society of CPAs and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA); Sign-up to receive "CPA Letter Daily" which is published by the AICPA;
- Attend Accounting Fellows meeting every two weeks which will be led by the Faculty Coordinator, the Woltemade Center, or approved visitor;
- Participate in a travel learning experience to be organized by the Faculty Coordinator and the Woltemade Center. The travel learning experience will be funded by the Woltemade Center and will take place during the traditional academic year;
- Attend a campus or local DEI workshop or event per semester during the program.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION MATERIALS
The application will be open Spring 2023.
The application form, a recommendation letter from a non-accounting faculty member, and a current resume must be submitted in order to be considered for the Accounting Fellows program. Instructions for submitting the recommendation letter and resume will be provided after completing the application form.
