The Charles J. Ping Student Service Award
The Charles J. Ping Award, sponsored by Ohio Campus Compact, is designed to recognize and honor undergraduate students for their outstanding leadership and contributions to community service or service learning on campus and within their community. The awardees represent the next generation of civic leaders and problem solvers. This state award is nominated by OWU President Rock Jones and Sally Leber, Director of Community Service Learning.
The Patricia G. Young Award for Leadership in Service to Children and Youth
The Patricia G. Young Award is given each year in recognition of outstanding leadership in service to children and youth. This award is named in honor of an Ohio Wesleyan trustee who, after spending her career working in juvenile courts and with mediation, retired as a Senior Judge in her home state of Idaho.
The Bridge Builder Award
The Bridge Builder Award is given in recognition of exemplary service and engagement within and beyond the campus community. Ohio Wesleyan Bridge Builders create and maximize connections with individual community members and/or the nonprofit sector.
The Sara Paullin Casto Student Humanitarian Award
The Sara Paullin Casto Student Humanitarian Award is given in recognition of consistent outstanding leadership in public service - especially as it relates to humanitarian causes - on campus, in the community, and beyond. This award is named in memory of a 1996 Ohio Wesleyan alumna, a past recipient of the Student Humanitarian Award, who co-founded the House of H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Pursue Education) SLU and conducted extensive community research that led to the founding of the Literacy Coalition of Delaware County.
Dr. Sarvis was a Professor of Sociology at Ohio Wesleyan who devoted much of his life to promoting and living by example the virtues and values of cross-cultural understanding and sensitivity to racial and religious diversity. This award is given to a student who has a demonstrated record of fostering cross-cultural understanding and contributing to the creation of a culture of hospitality and inclusion at OWU.
Meek Leadership Awards
The Meek Leadership Awards were established in 1997 with a contribution from Phillip J. Meek and Nancy LaPorte Meek, both 1959 OWU graduates. OWU seniors who have demonstrated exceptional leadership service during their years at Ohio Wesleyan and show promise to sustain that commitment throughout their lives may be considered for these awards. Faculty and staff may nominate an individual.
Fraternity & Sorority Community Impact Recognition
This award recognizes excellence in programming among fraternities and sororities. Program, event, or initiative must demonstrate ingenuity, creativity, and provide a significant contribution to the Ohio Wesleyan community. This can include an innovative approach to programming, educating students, addressing a problem on campus, or otherwise improving the campus community.

Residential Life Awards
Heart of the Community Award
This award is given to a member of our residential community who has gone above and beyond in connecting Bishops with one another. The award recognizes individuals who bring residents together as a community in and out of the residence halls and who have also initiated and participated in creative and engaging programmatic opportunities.
Outstanding Residential Assistant / Moderator Award
This award recognizes an RA/Moderator who has worked to create an inclusive and engaged community within their hall or house. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate a well-rounded approach to the position, academics, their personal life, and have contributed to the success of their residents. The award also recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to their residential community through program development, addressing student needs, supporting peer and senior staff, and leadership within the community. The award winner will have gone above and beyond the duties as outlined in their job description to support residents in the communities in which they work as well as residence life organizations, and/or made outstanding contributions to the hall/house in which they work.
Student Organization Community Impact Recognition

Student Organization Advisor Recognition
This award recognizes club advisors who provide significant contributions in the positive development of the club or organization they serve. They assist as well as encourage the group to think about its role in the larger OWU community.
Best New Member
Best New Member is awarded by the Executive Committee of WCSA to a member who has begun his or her first term in the previous year and who has made the greatest overall contribution to the mission and goals of WCSA.
Best Overall Member
Best Overall Member is awarded by the Executive Committee of WCSA to the member the council determines to have made the greatest overall contribution to the mission and goals of WCSA.
Donald G. Chenoweth Friend of WCSA Award
Donald G. Chenoweth Friend of WCSA is awarded by the Executive Committee of WCSA to a non-member to WCSA deemed by the committee to have the greatest contribution to the mission and goals of WCSA.
Social Justice Steward Award
The Social Justice Steward is awarded by the Executive Committee of WCSA to a member who has served as the greatest advocate for social justice issues and is often outspoken when they feel that an act of injustice has been committed.
