When visiting the OWU Student Health Center, students should bring their medical insurance card, student or legal ID and a credit card or check for costs associated with their visit. Students will need to make a copayment for office visits to the Student Health Center as these visits will be billed to their insurance. Insurance claims will also be submitted for visits that require resources outside the clinic, such as x-rays or laboratory tests through outside processing companies.

No. A prescription from home can be taken to a local pharmacy of your choice. The Student Health Center has a small dispensary with select medicines that our health care providers can give to students during their visit, or if preferred, providers can write a prescription for you to take to a pharmacy. The two closest pharmacies to campus are CVS (740-363-1181) and Walgreens (740-369-0422), both located south of campus on South Sandusky Street.

If you are unable to make an appointment that you previously scheduled, please call as soon as possible to notify staff so that another student can take your place.

Yes. A prescription can be given upon completion of a well woman exam with one of the Student Health Center providers. A prescription will be good for 12 months from the well woman exam and can either be dispensed from the Health Center or written to be taken to a pharmacy.

No. Written excuses are not issued by the Student Health Center. Students who are ill and miss classes are responsible for notifying their professors concerning their missed time/assignments. If you have an extended illness or are hospitalized and will miss three or more days of class, the Student Health Center can assist with sending an “out of class notice” once medical documentation is received from your health care provider. The Student Health Center cannot excuse missed work or tests.

No. If you have a form such as a work physical, study-abroad form, or other document that requires a medical provider's signature, you will need to be seen for an appointment to have it completed.

All Student Health Center appointments are confidential and no information can be given without written consent of the patient.

Students able to continue care from their home doctor while at school are highly encouraged to do so, but the Student Health Center can help those who are unable to do so. For our physicians to prescribe any controlled medication, educational testing and current prescriber’s documentation must be reviewed prior to any appointment being scheduled. Students then will meet with a health center physician to review, agree to, and sign the controlled medication policy.

Yes, all students regardless of their insurance coverage can utilize the Student Health Center. If OhioHealth is not part of your insurance plan, out of network rates will apply.
