Spring Break Wilderness Trek
Every year the Wilderness Ministry takes students on week-long outdoor adventures over spring break. These trips have gone to places like the mountains of North Carolina or New Hampshire, the deserts and rocks of Utah or southern California, and all the way to the volcanoes of Ecuador. The experiences are designed to challenge students physically, mentally, and spiritually and help them grow in their relationships with themselves, with others, with the natural world, and with God. Canyon Adventures: Hiking and Camping in Utah
We will spend the week hiking and exploring the canyons of southern Utah including the longest slot canyon in the world. We’ll learn camping skills and how to thrive in the high desert environment. The middle of the week will include an overnight backpacking trip, and we’ll finish the week with a visit to the winter environment of Bryce Canyon National Park. As we encounter these extreme landscapes we will dig deeper into our relationship with God, Self, others, and creation. The trip will be challenging physically, mentally, and spiritually. No equipment or experience required. Cost: $450 (includes airfare)
Island Living: Backpacking on Cumberland Island, Georgia
We will spend a week exploring one of the largest and best preserved barrier islands on the east coast. Cumberland Island is only accessible by ferry and is home to pristine maritime forests, civil war era ruins, and miles of undeveloped beaches. We will learn backpacking and camping skills as we traverse the island on foot, and we may encounter wildlife such as feral horses and some of 335 bird species. During our week together we will explore the themes of identity, community, and spirituality. The trip will be physically and mentally challenging but will also include time for rest and reflection. No equipment or experience required. Cost: $300
