About

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) takes the lead on
providing support for students through services provided by the Women’s Resource Center, Spectrum (2SLGBTQIA+), and Global Majority initiatives. We promote community building, wellness, the pursuit of joy, and the movement toward thriving in all environments.  Our goal is to support students who hold historically underrepresented identities to reach their goal of graduation.

Our staff are located on the 2nd floor in the Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, and available Monday through Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm.

 

Department Learning Outcomes

By participating in OMSA programs and services, students will (or will be able to):

  • Develop a critically conscious sense of self (Identity Development)
  • Apply strategies to successfully navigate the institution (Self-Efficacy)
  • Develop the capacity to address oppressive systems and behaviors in themselves and their communities. (Capacity building)

Values

In addition to the values of the division of student engagement and success, OMSA values:

  • Self-reflection: We have a responsibility for critical and continual process to examine how our socializations and biases inform our programming, advising, and services.
  • Critical consciousness: We utilize critical thought as a means to examine and understand our world, with the goal of implementing strategies to make meaningful change.
  • Advocacy: We have a responsibility to challenge and confront systems of oppression on behalf of students.
  • Stewardship: We will be thoughtful and responsible with not only campus resources, but also the history and legacy of student-led advocacy at OWU.
