An Externship is a short (1-5 days) practical experience that will allow OWU students to EXPLORE a potential career path, gain valuable job EXPERIENCE, and ENGAGE with OWU alumni in various career fields and industries.
Externships are a great opportunity for students to learn more about what it is like to work in the field of study or even a field of study they may be interested in. Be sure to check out opportunities for this spring break.

Externship hosts
Apply to the Bishop Externship program today. It's a great opportunity to network with alumni, and get to know people working in your field. It even looks great on a resume.
Externships expose students to a field of interest, industries, and the workforce. This experience allows students to think about their studies in a broader sense of how their academics will relate to the larger world. This opportunity will help students to gain additional insight into their choice of major, future course selection and career goals. Externships will also help prepare students for traditional internships or jobs down the road. This program also provides students with a unique opportunity to engage OWU alumni.
Externships can look a lot different depending on your host and your career path. Some things externs do, but are not limited to are: sit in on staff meetings, complete office tasks or assist with projects, conduct informational interviews of both professional and administrative staff, observe client interactions. observe functions and duties of a particular career, and tour facilities. Students have the opportunity to explore potential career paths within different organizations and their profession. Many students will even get the opportunity to work and offer ideas.
Being an Extern is an exciting opportunity to get to know your field of study a bit better. Seeing the day to day tasks of someone already working in their field of study can help students decide on a major, career path, or internship opportunity down the road. Many Externs turn their Externship into a long term internship. Not only does this opportunity provide a chance to explore a field of your choice, but learn to network and make connections with OWU alumni for future job opportunities.
