Full-Time Faculty

In March of 2015 the faculty adopted changes to Chapter V, Section A.1.c of the Faculty Handbook that now require the Faculty Personnel Committee to request that full-time faculty submit course syllabi when they are being reviewed for retention, promotion, merit increment, or tenure. The specific language from Chapter V, Section A.1 is provided here for your reference.

When being reviewed for retention, promotion, merit increment, or tenure, each member of the Faculty is asked to do the following.

c.  Provide course syllabi for all classes taught since the last review. Syllabi will be made available to all peer evaluators.

To facilitate the collection and distribution of course syllabi, the Faculty Personnel Committee has implemented a system to collect, store, and retrieve syllabi electronically. To make it easier for all faculty to submit their syllabi in a timely manner for their reviews, we have adopted the practice of inviting all faculty to submit syllabi at the beginning of each semester.

We ask that you please upload your course syllabi at the web link below. When you log in you will see a list of courses you are scheduled to teach this academic year. Please upload syllabi for courses in the current semester. The deadline to submit all syllabi for an academic year is July 31. After that date you will be unable to upload syllabi for the current academic year. We encourage all faculty to upload their course syllabi as soon as possible after the start of a semester to avoid forgetting to do so.

Things to Remember

  1. You are invited to submit all syllabi you have written, including those for laboratories, seminars, independent studies, and internships, but the Faculty Personnel Committee only requires syllabi for lecture courses (course of sub-type LEC) at this time.
  2. The OWU Library no longer solicits, collects or archives course syllabi. All syllabi are collected through the Provost's office and the Faculty Personnel Committee using the syllabus upload page. Syllabi previously collected by the OWU Library are now available through the syllabus search page
  3. Some courses listed on your syllabus upload page may have an enrollment of zero (0). You are not expected to submit syllabi for courses with no enrollment for an entire semester.
  4. The courses listed on your syllabus upload page will match your teaching schedule in Self-Service. If you believe there is an error in the courses listed on your syllabus upload page, please contact your department chairperson and the Registrar to fix your list of scheduled course.
  5. You can only upload syllabi in PDF format. Other formats are not accepted. If it is not uploading properly, long URLs may be the problem. Use a URL shortening app and re-try. Large file sizes may also cause upload issues. Optimize the file size (Adobe is one option) and re-try.
  6. Courses for the current academic year will appear on your syllabus upload page on or slightly after August 1. You have until July 31 of the following calendar year to upload syllabi for your Fall and Spring semester courses.
  7. After July 31, you will no longer be able to upload syllabi for courses you taught in the previous academic year.
  8. Course syllabi will be provided to peer evaluators and members of the Faculty Personnel Committee during reviews for retention, tenure, promotion, and merit.
  9. According to the Faculty Handbook, course syllabi are not considered confidential.

Part-Time Faculty

Procedures established by the Faculty Personnel Committee to review part-time Instructors, Lecturers and Senior Lecturers according to the part-time policy found in Chapter III, Section C.2 of the Faculty Handbook require that all part-time faculty submit course syllabi as part of their review process. To make it easier for all faculty to submit their syllabi in a timely manner for all reviews, we have implemented a system to collect, store, and retrieve syllabi electronically. We will now invite all part-time faculty to submit syllabi at the beginning of each semester.

We ask that you please upload your course syllabi at the web link below. When you log in you will see a list of courses you are scheduled to teach this academic year.
