Ohio Wesleyan University will provide the opportunity for a limited number of OWU students to spend ten weeks working on a science research project on campus with a faculty sponsor this summer. Brief descriptions of the projects will be available to students starting January 18, 2022. If you are interested in applying, you are strongly encouraged to discuss your interest with the project mentor to whom you are applying because they will be a part of the evaluation process. The typical 10 week summer experience begins May 9, 2022 and concludes July 15, 2022, and includes a $3,740 stipend. Campus housing will be available at a reduced cost of $10 per week. A poster presentation at the Patricia Belt Conrades Summer Science Research Symposium in September 2022 describing the research is required.
Qualifications
Preference is given to current sophomores and juniors and those who have not previously participated in a summer research program at OWU. Each project has additional specific course/experience qualifications and students should check with the faculty mentor about these qualifications prior to submitting their applications. Rarely are students with a GPA below 3.0 placed in this program.
Application Process
A completed Application is required along with a transcript sent directly to ssrp@owu.edu by the OWU Registrar's Office and two letters of recommendation. The Release form for the transcript can be found here. This form must be submitted to the Registrar's Office before your transcript can be released. Unofficial transcripts submitted by students will not be accepted. Recommendation forms and Applications can be downloaded here. Completed applications should be sent as an email attachment (as a PDF) to ssrp@owu.edu by February 17, 2022. Please put “Application for student’s name” in the subject line of your email.
Other Deadlines
Notification of your acceptance in the program (first round) will be sent no later than March 4, 2022. Your acceptance of an offer must be received by March 15, 2022. Alternative selections (if necessary) will be sent by March 22, 20212
